The Saddlers have not tasted defeat on Boxing Day since a 2-0 setback at Salford City in 2020 and Mat Sadler has emerged victorious in each of the past two as Walsall boss.

His debut campaign heralded a 2-0 home success over Crewe in 2023 and Walsall won by the same score-line against Doncaster Rovers at Bescot last season.

Sadler has successfully guided Walsall to the League Two summit for the second Christmas in a row, after they held fellow promotion rivals Notts County to a goalless draw at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

Swindon Town leapfrogged County into second spot courtesy of a 1-0 win over Crawley Town, but still trail leaders Walsall on goal difference.

That point extended the Saddlers' unbeaten run on the road to seven games in all competitions following a six-match winning streak in the six away matches prior.
