Darlaston’s Olympic boxing hero faces Germany’s Gavazi for the WBC silver light-heavyweight title at the NEC on November 29 in his first fight under the Matchroom banner.

The pair faced off for the first time at a press conference in London on Friday and Whittaker made no secret as to his intentions.

“He is coming to win. He is ambitious,” he said. “But I am going to keep it short and sweet. I am going to slice and dice him, turn him into a German doner kebab.

“That’s what I am going to do with him, real quickly.”

A smiling Whittaker also made reference to his former promoter, Boxxer, who have rescheduled Frazier Clarke’s British heavyweight title clash with Jeamie TKV in Derby for the same night as his Matchroom debut.

The Clarke fight will be shown live on the BBC but Whittaker said: “Everyone knows my pedigree. They know what I can do and I am so excited to show it on the 29th.

“It is going to be an amazing show. There are a couple of shows on that night, apparently. But you know which one to tune into!”

Whittaker has been branded the “next big star” of British boxing by promoter Eddie Hearn, who revealed his first fight next year will possibly be in the USA.

“That is what gets me excited. I have the opportunity to fight all around the world,” said Whittaker. “I have global fans and they have been screaming for that chance.”
