A run to remember saw Vampire Bob at Monmore
A run to remember saw Vampire Bob claim the Ladbrokes.com Top Grade Kennel Sweepstakes at Monmore for Gary Griffiths.
Griffiths was all smiles on Thursday night as he had three winners by the end of the evening, with Uncle Ken and Jayne Louise also triumphing in S1 and A4 contests respectively.
The highlight, though, was Bob’s showing in the A1 final. He won one of the three heats last week and some sensational early pace helped make the difference on this occasion, clocking a time of 28.22secs (+20) and beating 2/1 favourite Coologue Pest (Brian Thompson) by three quarters of a length.
“He’s done amazingly for us recently, we’re absolutely delighted with him,” said Griffiths.
“He’s won three A1s and an A2 over the past month, so he should be a contender for the next Dog of the Month award.
“To have three winners on the night was really pleasing. The kennel’s in very good shape at the moment and long may it continue.”
Thursday was Owners’ Night at Monmore as all owners were invited to bring a guest and enjoy a free two-course meal in the restaurant.
Also on the night, Knock Beeswing put in a reminder of why she grabbed the Monmore Graded Greyhound of the Year award last year with a nice victory over two bends.
Trained by Thompson and owned by Andy Ashton, that was her 27th triumph from 95 outings.
Wide runner Carmac Pete caught the eye as well when winning an A2 for Nathan Hunt earlier in the night.
