Snooker round-up: Excellent 109 break stuns league
Danny Ludgate stunned the Stafford & West Midlands snooker league division two with a superb century as Landywood won 4-1 at Woodfield.

He potted a blue and split the last four reds perfectly to go on to record the first century in division two since February 2023, with an excellent 109 break.
Alex Ake took the opening frame for Woodfield before Alan Hathaway levelled the match. Momentum swung Landywood’s way thanks to Ludgate’s stunning effort and the victory was completed for the away side as Neil Gould and Simon Kelly took the remaining two frames.
It was a night for big breaks in division two as Jason Jenns made an 82 break to put Townsend 1-0 up at Landywood E. Sam Thompson made it 2-0, but Landywood E fought back to win 3-2 thanks to Paul Burgin, Paul Hodgkiss and Colin Kettlewell to maintain their strong start to the season and remain in fourth place.
Poets B replaced Bilston Sports and Social in third place in division two after defeating them 4-1, while nbeaten Bilston Bowling Club remain top of division two after defeating bottom side Poets Corner D.
Wednesfield Cons are the new leaders of division one after Andy Price, Oliver Spooner, Joshua Walker, Ryan Hamilton and Dan Ward ensured a 5-0 whitewash over Landywood C.
Hotshots remain in second place after coming out on top of a tough encounter at Stafford Institute. Paul Deaville made a 44 break to put Hotshots 1-0 up, and it was soon 2-0 as Callum Downing took the next with breaks of 49 and 45. Luke Higginbotham made a 56 break as it looked like Hotshots would take the match, but Stafford’s Chris Ward fought back to take the frame.
Hotshots took the next frame and the match as Karl Ashmore made a 39 break before Rob Wharne took the final frame as Hotshots won 3-2.
Landywood stay unbeaten and move into fourth after a 4-1 win at Baggeridge, while Landywood B also sent Sedgley Ex Service to their first defeat of the season.
Lightning struck twice for Charlemont’s Daniel Ward as a week after making two 40-plus breaks in his match against Poets Corner, he repeated the feat, making breaks of 45 and 43 in taking the opening frame against Shifnal WM. Ricky Sadler took the next on the black to put Charlemont 2-0 up, before Shifnal fought back to take the match through Matthew Davies, Michael Brezwyn and Tom Maxfield.
