The 21-year-old became the country’s youngest player to reach 10 international goals when he scored in Sunday’s 3-1 World Cup qualifying defeat in Cologne.

Price also surpassed George Best, Norman Whiteside, Billy Bingham and former Baggies defender Gareth McAuley on Northern Ireland’s all-time scoring list courtesy of his first half strike.

His volley from a corner levelled the scores at 1-1, cancelling out Serge Gnabry’s opener for the hosts.

Despite a spirited performance, Northern Ireland were eventually beaten by second half goals from Nadiem Amiri and Florian Wirtz.

Price, meanwhile, is now 10th on the all-time top scorer list, despite having played only 24 international matches.

The midfielder, who joined Albion from Standard Liege for £2.5million in January, has enjoyed an excellent start to the season at club level, scoring three goals in the first four Championship matches.

Speaking after Sunday's game, Price said: “There’s something about Northern Ireland… I seem to be in the right place at the right time.

“It was a great ball in from the corner and I managed to get on the end of it.

“We've worked on quite a few set-pieces. I think that was one that maybe was a little bit fortunate because we've been working on blocks and stuff, but it's really good to get a set-piece goal.

“The feeling when I score is something I can’t really describe. When you go over to the away fans, you see the passion."

Northern Ireland had won the opening match of their World Cup qualifying campaign, 3-1 away to Luxembourg last week.

Price, who will now return to Albion to being preparations for Saturday's home match with Derby, continued: “Getting three points away to Luxembourg (last week) was big for us and this game was sort of a free hit to get something out of the game.

“We are really disappointed because we feel like we could have got a bit more. We could have got a point. It is something to build on.

“Everyone in our changing room believes we are good enough to compete with teams like this, but we just didn’t quite have enough.”
