'Everyone is happy': Ryan Mason gives view on £4m Darnell Furlong sale as West Brom man makes Ipswich move
West Brom's longest serving player Darnell Furlong made his Hawthorns exit on Thursday - after six years with the club.
Signed for £1.5m from QPR in 2019 - he helped Albion to promotion in his first season and was a mainstay in the side that battled against Premier League relegation the following season.
Over the last four seasons in the Championship he has been a key part of the Albion side - and on a number of occasions he was handed the captain's armband, in the absence of the likes of Jed Wallace and Kyle Bartley.
After the latter retired earlier this summer - Furlong became the club's longest serving player.
He has featured in all three league games so far this season - but after more than 200 appearances for Albion he completed a £4m move to Ipswich Town on Thursday.
Asked about the departure in his press conference on Friday morning - head coach Ryan Mason paid tribute to Furlong for his contributions at the club.
He explained that an offer came in for Furlong that he wanted to explore - and he stated everyone is 'happy' with the deal.
He said: "Obviously Darnell has been a fantastic servant to the club.
"Look at the time he has spent here and his availability, he has always been there to stand up.
"From a club point of view, something came in and from a player point of view the player wanted to explore the opportunity.
"I think that is the most important thing, we want players 100 per cent committed and this is something he wanted to explore.
"Everyone is happy and we wish him all the best.
"There were no concerns over his commitment before, this is football and things happen.
"A good club have come in and it is something he wanted to explore, we're happy with the situation and we wish him all the best and thank him."
