West Brom defender joins Championship rivals in £4m deal
Albion have sold Darnell Furlong to Ipswich in a deal which could eventually be worth £4million.
The 29-year-old right-back has become the latest Baggies player to swap The Hawthorns for Portman Road following talks between the clubs this week.
Albion will receive an initial £3.5million, with a further £500,000 coming their way if the Tractor Boys win promotion back to the Premier League.
Furlong, who joined from QPR in 2019, was among Albion’s longest-serving players having made nearly 250 appearances in all competitions.
He had started all three Championship matches this season, with the Baggies expected to sign a replacement before Monday night’s transfer deadline.
Furlong is reunited with several former team-mates in Suffolk with fellow defender Conor Townsend and goalkeeper Alex Palmer having made the move in the past year.
Former Baggies skipper Dara O’Shea is also on Ipswich’s books, having joined them from Burnley last summer.
The fee for Furlong will be the second largest received by Albion in the current transfer window, following Torbjorn Heggem’s £9m switch to Bologna.
Albion completed the signing of centre-back Chris Mepham from Bournemouth earlier in the day.
