The 26-year-old has departed after just 13 months with the Baggies but for a significantly higher fee than the one which brought him to The Hawthorns from Swedish club IF Brommapojkarna.

Heggem made 46 total appearances for Albion, his performances earning him both the players’ and supporters’ player of the year awards last season.

While the Norway international’s exit is clearly a blow on one hand, the money received will allow the Baggies greater wriggle room in the transfer market, while easing their position in regard to the EFL’s profit and sustainability rules.

The fee is the largest Albion have received for a player since 2021, while the deal is also thought to include a sell-on clause.

Albion moved swiftly to complete the signing of Blues defender Krystian Bielik on Thursday night.
