Wolverhampton kickboxer enjoys knockout success with hat-trick of titles in single day
A young kickboxer from Wolverhampton is celebrating after winning a hat-trick of national titles in just one day.
Evan Alexander’s superb feat saw him become the joint-most decorated fighter at the recent WKO K1 National Championship in Basildon.
The Brewood Middle School student took victory in the nine to 11-year-old B class category at under-48kg and then followed it up by winning the 11 to 12-year-old B class category at the same weight.
To cap an excellent day, he then won the C class nine to 11-year-old event to become one of only three fighters to walk away with three gold medals on the day.
“It was a superb achievement and we are massively proud of Evan,” said dad Ryan.
“It is quite unusual to win three titles. We were hoping he might win one title but to win three was really special.”
The success continued an impressive year for 11-year-old Alexander, who won a Midlands title earlier in June.
He will now aim to make it even better after being selected to fight for England at next month’s world championships, which take place in Barnsley.
“That’s a much bigger competition, with fighters coming from all over the globe. It’s a huge event,” said Ryan. “Hopefully he can continue his success.”
