Searle learns first-round opponent for Wimbledon 2025

Wolverhampton's Henry Searle will bid for his first senior Wimbledon win against a fast-rising American next week.

Wildcard Searle, 19, has been drawn against the world No.95 Ethan Quinn in the first round of the gentlemen's singles at SW19 - a year on from losing to Marcos Giron on debut.

The Wolverhampton starlet shot to prominence two years ago when he became the first British winner of the boys' singles in 60 years.

Since then, he has played much of his tennis on the lower-ranked tours and is currently just outside the world's top 400 players, having peaked at 389 in February.

Victory over Quinn, who reached the third round of Roland-Garros on debut last month, would propel Searle to a career-high ranking inside the top 350 and a potential meeting with former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini in round two.

Quinn - one of many players to come through the American college system recently - was ranked outside the top 200 at the end of 2024, but has halved that in less than six months.

He lost his opening grass court match of the year in Halle before qualifying for the ATP Tour event in Mallorca this week, where he reached the second round before losing to fourth seed Tallon Griekspoor.

Searle missed out on qualification in Birmingham, Eastbourne and at the Queen's Club, but picked up a win over world No.97 Alexander Shevchenko at the Boodles Challenge Exhibition this week.

Searle will also team up with Birmingham's Dan Evans in the men's doubles. They have been drawn against reigning champions Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten in the first round.
