Pitmen see off Scholars

Hednesford Town progressed in the Staffordshire Senior Cup with a 3-0 victory over local rivals Chasetown.

Chasetown, however, were left wondering how they didn't get at least one goal after a number of saves from home stopper Dan Crane.

The Pitmen started on the front foot and took the lead in the 14th minute when Paul Ennis fed Andy Todd and he fired home from the edge of the box.

Chasetown didn't let their heads drop though and almost grabbed an equaliser in the 36th minute only for Crane to deny Francino Francis not once but twice on the line as the defender looked for a goal against his old club.

This would prove crucial as Town doubled their lead two minutes before the break. Danico Johnson muscled his man off the ball and slotted home past John Bateman to make it 2-0.

Into the second period and at just after the hour mark Crane was forced into two saves in quick succession, first from Stan Mugisha and secondly from Jonathan Gould.

Twelve minutes from time Hednesford secured the victory though when Ahmed Obeng got down the right and he picked out Todd who fired home from inside the six-yard box.

Hednesford will now face another big rival in Stafford Rangers in the next round of the competition.

Last night's FA Trophy replay between Rushall Olympic and Leamington was postponed before kick-off due to very strong winds.

The game will be replayed on Saturday.

The winners will host Hednesford in the next round.
