The club, based in Prestwood Drive, started its new Singles Ladders idea with which members can go online to the club's website and challenge other players in order to advance up the ladder themselves.

There is already an extensive offering of doubles tennis through a number of mix-in sessions each week and club also has a number of men's, ladies' and mixed teams playing in the local inter-club leagues.

Club member Richard Waldron started the ladders at the club midway through September and very quickly over 25 members signed up to take part. Nearly 40 matches have taken place since the ladders' inception.

Waldron said: "Wollaston has always had a strong philosophy of inclusive doubles tennis but, for the majority of us, our interest in tennis began with watching the Wimbledon singles titles.

"We therefore decided to create ladders to make sure the club also offers that competitive singles environment."

Wollaston Tennis Club also proudly recognised the achievements of its members at their annual presentation evening.

Awards were handed out by head coach Richard Cartwright and club chairman John Cutler to the club's 2015 champions both young and old.

Presentations were presented to all who had taken part in the Junior Club Championships together with the finalists of the 2015 Club Championships.

Reflecting on the year chairman Cutler said: "The club has had another really busy year. Beyond tennis, we raised over £1,000 for Wollaston-based Charity Max Appeal through our Open Day and also again hosted a morning of activities for Chernobyl's Children's Lifeline.

"In addition, our new singles ladder is already proving popular and during the winter leagues our teams will be hoping to build on the success of our ladies' A team who finished top of Staffordshire Inter-Club South Division One."
