Dynamo send New Park spinning out of Premier Cup
Holders Dynamo Dudley have their sights on a third successive NDT Premier Cup triumph after opening their defence of the silverware with a 4-2 home win over Beacon Sunday League newcomers New Park Village, writes Dave McLean.
Having lifted the trophy in 2014 and 2015, Dynamo Dudley began this season's qualifying group matches with a crucial victory over New Park, who had won four of their first six league games, including a 6-1 win away at Dynamo.
However, it was Dynamo who took the spoils on this occasion and moved a step closer the semi-final stages as the quartet of Leon Naylor, Ben Hickman, Liam Dunn and Aaron Lloyd shared the goals.
In Group B, Old Bulls Head boosted their hopes of qualification with a comfortable 7-1 triumph over Ellowes Hall.
This season's Falcon Insurance Beacon Cup is split into three qualifying sections and Springvale Steelers Academy made it two wins in two in Group B with a convincing 6-2 home success over Island Inn.
Ryan O'Brien bagged three, Shequille Ologlatere two with one from Dave Lander.
Sandwell Action opened their same-group games with an 8-1 victory at Pensnett Youth, who felt the full force of five-goal Heera Dadra.
He received good support from Lee Wood, Manesy Patel and Gavin Vagree, while Harry Price responded.
In Group C, high-flying Pensnett Panthers made it two wins when easing to a runaway 10-0 win against nine-man Willenhall Warriors. Steve Jeavons inflicted most damage with four, while Ryan Cartwright notched three, Tom Richards two and Jay Willis one.
Codsall Station look set to contest this section with Pensnett after Roy Chatterjee's five-goal performance in a 7-0 success at Springfield. The scoring was rounded off by Tom Turner and Sean Wright.
Bradmore Social have not had the best of luck on the league front but they took the honours at neighbouring Claregate Park Rangers in Group A thanks to efforts from Matt Wright, Huw Allen and Charlie Besenyai.
Goals from Steve Haycock and Fraser Kerry kept things close for Claregate, who had chances to level. Springvale Cougars look best bets to qualify from this section.
n Home advantage will favour last season's beaten finalists Bushbury EMB Rovers in the quarter finals of the Beacon Football League's flagship competition the Lester Charity Cup.
But first they have to get the better of Springvale Steelers Academy in the previous round, with the winners to entertain Sandwell Action. The other ties are, Great Barr Rangers 96 v Dynamo Dudley, Sportsman v Pensnett Panthers or New Park Village, West Smethwick v Ellowes Hall.
