23:00: It's all over! There will be a few bits and bobs to confirm but the January transfer window is now shut, in what has been one of the biggest spending sprees ever.

Our clubs in the region did what was expected of them today, very little, with Villa letting Stephen Ireland go to Newcastle on loan and bringing in United States midfielder Michael Bradley from German club Borussia Monchengladbach.

Wolves got the man they wanted yesterday, midfielder Jamie O'Hara on loan from Tottenham, but have signed free agent goalkeeper Adriano Basso on a contract until the end of the season and let young midfielder David Davis go on loan to Shrewsbury.

Albion went for another striker today with the brilliantly named Eric Choupo Moting-Maxime on their radar, only for the player to decide to stay in Germany with Cologne, or has he? It hasn't been confirmed that he has left Hamburg yet.

Birmingham, as expected, signed former Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins from Russian club Rubin Kazan - and managed to keep Sebastian Larsson despite late interest from Manchester City.

Walsall did nothing today, but could well move for a free agent or borrow players when the loan window opens.

With the Saddlers staring relegation from League One in the face, will new manager Dean Smith go all out in a last throw of the dice for survival?
