No more signings for Walsall boss
Walsall manager Chris Hutchings has ruled out any deadline-busting deals and insisted his squad is complete.
Walsall manager Chris Hutchings has ruled out any deadline-busting deals and insisted his squad is complete.
The Saddlers boss has signed Jonathan Macken and Reuben Reid but doesn't expect to buy again before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
There is money still available but Hutchings is happy to keep his powder dry and could bolster his squad when the loan window re-opens in 12 days.
He said: "I'm happy with what I've got. If I want to do something I can do but unless we get injuries or suspensions it's something I don't have to deal with immediately
"The last two results have shown we can do it with the squad we've got. If we need to delve into the market we can as there is money available if I need it.
"The window is coming to an end but it doesn't really affect us because we have a week and then we can make loans again."
Striker Macken arrived on a free transfer while Reid, who scored a debut winner in the 2-1 victory over Plymouth last weekend, joined on a five-month loan from Albion.
It means Hutchings still has the bulk of the cash he received from the sale of Troy Deeney to Watford this month - in a deal worth up to £650,000.
But the manager is comfortable with the versatility of his squad and expects them to build on back-to-back wins against Brentford and Plymouth.
He said: "Consistency was a flaw in our make up last season. We didn't put too many runs together, although we had a couple of runs of significance, but the target is three on the spin.
"There's no bigger target than that and then we have to look at the next one.
"Brighton is a tough place to go and we know it - but the lads should be confident after the results we've had."
The boss is without Darren Byfield (Achilles) and Steve Jones (ankle) but Macken could be fit for his debut after a calf strain.
