Walsall's ambitions suit Jonny Brain
Goalkeeper Jonny Brain insists Walsall are now tailor-made for a promotion assault.
Goalkeeper Jonny Brain insists Walsall are now tailor-made for a promotion assault.
Plymouth were kitted out for their matchday suits at High Street retailer Matalan this week and Brain is eager to leave them with their trousers round their ankles tomorrow.
The visitors may be suited and booted but the Saddlers are aiming to build on last weekend's morale-boosting 2-1 win at Brentford and claim their first home victory of the campaign.
New-boys Reuben Reid and Jon Macken are likely to be in the squad after signing to bolster the Saddlers' attacking options.
And Brain says Walsall must capitalise on the feel-good factor following the double swoop and the win at Griffin Park.
He said: "To get beaten this week would be criminal after getting the result at Brentford, tomorrow is an important game.
"We need a good performance and a result from it. Our season starts now.
"You can't look too far but the next two league games are vital. Ignore the first two games. People looking from the outside only see the first two results and wrote us off but our inner belief is there and always has been. Brentford proved that.
"It was a massive win and our season is up and running. We had a couple of disappointing defeats but they are in the past now."
Plymouth are one of the favourites for promotion following their relegation from the Championship last season and have opened with a 1-0 win at title favourites Southampton and a 1-1 draw with Carlisle.
But Brain is not worried Plymouth's favourites tag and expects the Saddlers to rise to the challenge against Peter Reid's men.
He said: "When we play the bigger clubs we raise our game, I'm expecting a big performance from the team and it's a game we can go into full of confidence. Plymouth won't relish coming to Walsall, it's a tricky game for them.
"To lose the first two wasn't ideal - it was a bit of a shock honestly - but we can put it right tomorrow."
Darren Byfield and Steve Jones are expected to shake off respective Achilles and groin injuries, while Plymouth will be without midfielder Anton Peterlin with a hamstring strain.
Reid is likely to ring the changes to his forward line with Rory Patterson set to start alongside Steve MacLean as New Zealand World Cup star Rory Fallon is out-of-favour.
Assistant manager John Carver is joining Sheffield United as part of Gary Speed's new-look backroom team, but Walsall boss Chris Hutchings still expects Reid's men to be well drilled.
The Saddlers chief is an admirer of the former Sunderland and Leeds manager and reckons Plymouth played a blinder by appointing him in the summer.
Hutchings said: "Peter was a fantastic player and been successful as a manager.
"It was a big coup for Plymouth."
