Walsall speak on Troy Deeney reports
Walsall today denied reports Troy Deeney has handed in a transfer request.
Walsall today denied reports Troy Deeney has handed in a transfer request.
The Saddlers have reacted with surprise over claims the striker has tried to force through a move to Watford - who have now had four bids rejected.
Deeney was at the Banks's Stadium today for the Saddlers' photocall ahead of Saturday's League One visit of Milton Keynes Dons and boss Chris Hutchings poured cold water on the reports.
He said: "Right at this moment in time he hasn't handed in any request.
"We can't stop clubs enquiring or making bids but players are paid by the football club and they're here to do a job.
"If a transfer request comes in it will be put to the board."
Chief executive Stefan Gamble also insisted the 22-year-old has not tried to force through a move to the Hornets.
But Deeney, who played the first half of Walsall's 1-1 draw at Port Vale on Saturday, has reportedly voiced his frustration with the Saddlers' hardline stance.
He is reported to have said: "I am disappointed in Walsall's continued rejection of offers for my transfer that are more than generous in the current financial climate.
"What I find more disturbing, however, is their reluctance to communicate with the interested club in a mature and professional manner to try to resolve the position for the benefit of all parties.
"I have therefore submitted a transfer request to the club."
