Bonser: I won't abandon Saddlers

Chairman Jeff Bonser today declared he is with Walsall for the long haul if he cannot find a buyer for the club.

The supremo has reaffirmed his commitment to the play-off chasing Saddlers, who welcome Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Bonser says should the perfect buyer emerge he will sell up, but unless that happens he will remain at the Banks's Stadium.

"About ten years ago I said the club needed somebody else in my shoes to push it on," he said.

"People still latch on to that and say the club is for sale. But almost every club is for sale to the right person.

"I have repeatedly said if the right person comes along, someone who could ensure the club's future and that league football stays in Walsall, I would gladly move aside.

"But nobody has come forward and I would never leave unless somebody of that type comes along. Walsall is too close to me.

"Whenever I do leave I'll come along as a supporter and couldn't bear it if someone messed it up. I'd be devastated."
