Birmingham midfielder Barry Ferguson insists he has nothing to prove to former employers Blackburn in his first meeting with the club that once paid £7.5million for his services.

The former Scotland international has been rejuvenated at St Andrews since making a £1.2million move to St Andrew's last summer, leaving Glasgow Rangers under a cloud after accusations of series breaches of club discipline.

Ferguson had previous Premier League experience, as a big money buy in 2003 for tonight's visitors to St Andrew's, but only spent two seasons at Ewood Park before asking to return to first club Rangers, having only made 36 appearances for Rovers.

Many doubted whether he would be able to cut in England's top flight four years later but, at the moment, the 31-year-old is proving his critics wrong.

He said: "I had two years at Blackburn and enjoyed myself there – but now I am enjoying myself at Birmingham.

"The last six months of my time up the road at Rangers were not the most enjoyable,Nothing but I am back to enjoying football and playing every game.

"I had a knee-cap injury at Blackburn. A lot of people said I didn't enjoy my time there. That was not the case.

"I have not got a point to prove. I started off well but then I got the bad injury. I came back from it and I played a lot of games for Blackburn. I did well. I was captain there.

"But it was a case of when your old club comes calling, so I kind of left under a bit of a cloud. I went back to Rangers and won more championships and cups and got to a UEFA Cup final."
