A scan revealed he has a 3cm tear in his hamstring and the initial diagnosis is the 22-year-old will be sidelined for at least three weeks.
He suffered the injury in the first half of Saturday's 3-0 win over Exeter.
The Irishman had deposed Clayton Ince as the Saddlers' No 1 and had started the last eight games – the best run of his professional career.
Ince is now in line to start at Colchester on Saturday and boss Chris Hutchings, who watched Wolves reserves draw 2-2 with Arsenal last night, could yet sign a keeper on loan with just 18-year-old Tim Cooney as cover.
