Walsall manager Chris Hutchings will subject his players to a video nasty after revealing his anger following the Saddlers' capitulation at Hartlepool.

The visitors lost their five-game unbeaten run, after Andy Monkhouse's brace and former Wolves striker Colin Larkin's chip gave Pools their first home win since April on Saturday.

Now the boss will show his players their horror show, in a bid to make sure their Victoria Park display never happens again.

He said: "I'll show the players the video to show them how bad they were. It might be a bit of a wake-up call for them so they know they've got to improve.

"There weren't many positives. The gauntlet has been thrown down to the players and we have to see how they bounce back. There were too many who didn't turn up and it was disappointing – we can't afford to carry five or six players."

Hartlepool's better use of the ball allowed them to dominate and when the visitors did have possession they wasted it.

Strikers Troy Deeney and Darren Byfield made little impact, as the Saddlers failed to break down their stubborn hosts.

The manager reckoned his team were giving conflicting messages.

He said: "At times players got caught between trying to play it and hook it. They'd have a shout of 'hook it' and a shout of 'time.'

"It was very disappointing after the way we have been playing, because we gave some poor goals away. The second one, five minutes into the second-half, was a big setback for us.

"Then we had our best period, had a few chances but they broke away and scored the third and it was game over."

Rhys Weston had the visitors' best chance when he headed wide with the score at 2-0, as the Saddlers tried to mount a recovery.

But they were caught trying to play offside when Larkin added a well deserved third, with Hutchings admitting he didn't know why his defence persisted with that tactics.

The manager said: "I don't know where we got that from, because we haven't been playing offside and it's something we have to look at.

"We can hold a line but we can't particularly play offside. If people want to make stupid runs, we hold our line."

Clayton McDonald went off immediately after Pools' second but Hutchings ruled out any injury, instead saying the defender was sick.

The Saddlers chief said: "He's had a virus. He was sick at half-time and coughing - that was the reason why he was brought off."
