Angry Walsall boss Chris Hutchings has threatened his players with the axe after their north east no-show.

The Saddlers were beaten 3-0 by Hartlepool on Saturday, who claimed their first win at Victoria Park since April.

Andy Monkhouse's brace and Colin Larkin's classy chip condemned them to their biggest defeat of the season and, ahead of tomorrow's visit of Huddersfield, the manager is considering changes.

He said: "We didn't perform, individually or collectively and that's the most disappointing thing. We can't dwell on it, we've got another big game tomorrow and the challenge will be thrown out to the players that they have got to perform.

"It remains to be seen whether I will change a few things round, but it looked like one or two were a little leggy for some reason. Perhaps they felt it was a sunny day out in the north.

"There are quite a few players in my thoughts because it was a poor performance."

Hutchings is hoping it was a one-off display after the Saddlers lost their five match unbeaten run.

He said: "We're really disappointed because we looked nothing like the side we've been in recent weeks. We shot ourselves in the foot. We went away at Tranmere and won, so we have to see if this was a one-off and only time will tell.

"It was one of those days where every decision we've made, whether on the ball or off the ball, was a poor one."
