The 20-year-old, who became a father on Saturday after the birth of his son, finished last season as joint 12-goal top scorer with the departed Michael Ricketts.

Now agent Alex Black has called for the Saddlers to offer an extension.

Deeney efforts last campaign triggered a clause in his contract which means he can have his current deal - which still has a year to run - reviewed.

Black said: "We'll see what comes about over the next few weeks, but it's an uncertain time for Troy and he is keeping his options open.

"Troy has a clause in his contract, which means it gets reviewed when his performances trigger certain aspects of the deal.

"He has achieved what is necessary to earn an extension, but the club haven't been forthcoming in offering new terms."

Black insisted Deeney was happy with the Saddlers, but warned the club have to match his ambition.

He said: "Troy has 12 months left and is happy at Walsall, but he feels if the club can't determine his long-term future, then we will have to talk about where we go from here."

Deeney has already insisted he will ignore speculation about his future. He had been linked with a move to Wigan and Norwich last season.

He said: "I've only been playing professionally for two years, so from going from Chelmsley to being linked to a Premier League team is just funny.

"It's all paper talk and you can see why people just ignore it."
