Walsall boss Chris Hutchings questioned his squad 's commitment during Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Oldham as player's futures were set to be decided today.

The Saddlers ended their League One campaign with a disappointing defeat at the Banks's Stadium despite Troy Deeney's opener after just 30 seconds.

But goals from Deane Smalley and substitute Ryan Brooke won the game for the Latics to consign the hosts to 13th place in the table.

Hutchings meets with the squad today to debrief the season and start settling the futures of his 13 out of contract players.

"Contracts are up but you wouldn't believe it based on that performance," he said.

"It's disappointing for myself and the staff but also for the players and they have to look at themselves.

"It was a massive disappointment and there are not too many positives to come out of it."

It was a third straight home defeat for the Saddlers, whose last home win came in the 3-0 victory over Brighton in the middle of March.

They ended the season without a victory in their final four games at the Banks's and Hutchings was desperate to give the Saddlers' faithful something to cheer ahead of the summer break.

Hutchings insisted the blame for the defeat lay with his players who failed to follow his instructions.

"There were too many poor performances," he said.
