Saddlers will take heed of warnings
Roy Whalley insists the Walsall board will not gamble with the club's future after League One rivals Stockport slipped into administration.
The Saddlers chief executive reckons the club would not overspend and is in good hands with chairman Jeff Bonser in charge.
That comes after the Edgeley Park club were docked 10 points when they were placed in administration on Thursday, owing one creditor £300,000.
But Whalley has reassured fans the Saddlers' future is secure.
He said: "I would argue that, if you want sustained success at a club, you have to have financial stability.
"Football is a very inexact science and what we do know is that there are only going to be a few winners each year – there are not many leagues and cups to be won.
"Most years you are not going to be successful, but you still have to pay the bills, so we do operate on a break-even basis.
"I think that is the only way forward for a club of this size, otherwise you end up with point deductions and relegations.
"Talk to the supporters of Luton Town and look at the problems they have had at Bournemouth.
"It is highly likely in the next few weeks there will be other clubs going that way.
"We don't want to be like that and while Jeff Bonser is chairman we won't."
