The Saddlers host Tranmere in League One with Nicholls publicising the worries the side used to have at the Banks's.

He admitted: "There was a stage just before Jimmy Mullen left where we really didn't want to be playing at home.

"The pressure was so great because of all the late goals we were conceding. It's something you have to deal with as a professional footballer."

But Nicholls reckons boss Hutchings and assistant Martin O'Connor have brought a relaxed atmosphere to the dressing room, after the players were nervous under previous manager Mullen.

He said: "It's nowhere near as bad now because the manager has come in and settled us down.

"Jimmy was nervous of it as well and it affected the players. Now we're told to go out and play and do what we've got to do.

"Sometimes you need that, even if the management are feeling the pressure, you need them not to show it so it doesn't rub off."
