The winger is tied to the Saddlers until next year, but, with 13 players' deals up in the summer, Nicholls cannot help but feel the uncertainty surrounding the Banks's Stadium.

With five games of the League One season left and the team set for a mid-table finish, Nicholls reckons the desire to earn a new deal is keeping them going.

He said: "It gives everyone an incentive who's out of contract, they are in essence playing for their futures. They have to put meals on the tables for their families at home.

"It just adds to the millions of people who will be out of work anyway so you need to keep your contract or get a new one."
