Takeaway serves up new look

Here is the first glimpse inside an Italian takeaway in Wolverhampton that is preparing for its latest reincarnation as a restaurant and late-night cocktail bar.

Around £500,000 has been ploughed into Soprano's, in Princess Street, to bring it back to life as a new night-time venue. The venue closed suddenly in May with huge debts, just months after opening following a three-year refurbishment. But it will now be relaunched under new management later this month, with a 40-seater restaurant.

On the menu will be Italian/American food and there will also be a takeaway, lounge and cocktail bar spread over three floors.

Drinks could be served until 4.30am on certain nights and musicians on stage until 2am if Wolverhampton Council agrees.

General manager Patrick Gaffiero said: "It will be like a small, traditional Italian restaurant. The takeaway is going to open in the third week of November and the restaurant the week after that. We believe it will be a major asset in Wolverhampton and I hope the people of the city will embrace it. It is totally different to what the city has now. We are just putting the finishing touches to it."

Soprano's opened earlier this year, three years after plans were first announced only to shut months later without the main restaurant opening.
