Top TV chef Phil Vickery will visit a Staffordshire nursery to launch a major national healthy eating drive to tackle obesity in very young children.

Michelin-starred Vickery, who is a regular on the BBC's Ready Steady Cook, will be treated to a guided tour of Busy Bees flagship nursery in Burntwood, before doing some cooking with the children, many of who have mini-chef outfits ready.

Childhood obesity is on the increase in Britain, with figures from the British Medical Association revealing one in five primary school pupils are now overweight and 12.8 per cent are classed as obese or severely obese.

The campaign aims to reduce these statistics by addressing healthy eating challenges in children as young as two.

As part of the campaign, Vickery has worked with the nursery's catering teams and an expert on child nutrition to devise a health menu for parents, to be rolled out to the chain's 131 nurseries.

All the recipes will then be made into a booklet to be given away free to parents at the nurseries, and available to read and download from the Busy Bees www.busybees.com website.
