Rail staff are working to remove the obstruction

Rail passengers travelling through Wolverhampton this morning are facing disruption after a tree became entangled in overhead electric wires, blocking a railway line between Sandwell & Dudley and Wolverhampton.

Train operator Avanti West Coast reported that the incident has blocked the line towards Wolverhampton, resulting in delays of up to 30 minutes and some services being diverted.

The disruption is expected to continue until around midday today (Sunday, June 14).

In a statement posted on social media, Avanti West Coast said: "Due to a tree being caught on the overhead electric wires between Sandwell & Dudley and Wolverhampton, the line towards Wolverhampton is blocked. Trains running between these stations may be delayed, or diverted."

Passengers are being advised to check before travelling and allow extra time for their journeys.

Avanti West Coast has confirmed that customers delayed by 15 minutes or more may be eligible for compensation through its Delay Repay scheme. Those whose trains have been cancelled can use their tickets on either of the two Avanti services immediately before or after their booked train.

Travellers who no longer wish to travel because of delays or cancellations can apply for a full refund from their ticket retailer.

The disruption may also affect services operated by other train companies using the route.

Rail staff are working to remove the obstruction and restore normal services as quickly as possible.
