Road works in Willenhall town centre are set to be completed by the ‘end of March at the very latest’.

The update was provided by Daniel Grealey, a construction manager from Wolverhampton City Council, at a Walsall Council scrutiny committee meeting on January 20.

Members of the committee were able to quiz officers about the chaos which has blighted Willenhall residents and businesses since March 2025.

Roadworks first began as part of the construction of the new railway station in Willenhall, a project being delivered by Transport for West Midlands.

A month later, further roadworks commenced in the area for the Noose Lane, Pinson Road and Rose Hill cycle scheme.

Doing the works simultaneously caused major upset among road users in Willenhall, and business owners in the town centre have suffered hugely from reduced footfall.

Matt Crowton, group manager for transportation strategy at Walsall Council said: “A lot of residents and businesses have been disrupted. We want to make sure we learn from that experience and we apply that learning as we develop furniture schemes.”

Councillor Adrian Andrew, deputy leader and portfolio holder for regeneration, added: “In the long run, these improvements that we’ve made in Willenhall will be there forever, whereas the upheaval was there for a few months.”

In the latest update received at the start of January, Grealey said works were expected to be completed in February.

He added that most of the remaining works are weather dependent, so predicted that they will be complete ‘sometime in March or at the end of that month at the latest’.
