Motorists delayed after multi-vehicle M5 collision on motorway near West Bromwich
Motorists were left facing substantial delays on the northbound M5 after a multi-vehicle collision caused two lanes to be closed.
National Highways posted on X at 5.10pm to inform people travelling on the northbound M5 of the collision between Junction 1 (at West Bromwich) and the M6 and that two lanes were closed for vehicle recovery and clean-up works.
Motorists were warned of 60-minute delays.
An update from National Highways at around 6.30pm said one of the affected lanes had reopened but the other remained closed.
A spokesman said: "Lane 1 remains closed on the M5 northbound between J1 (West Bromwich) and M6 J8 for vehicle recovery following a multi-vehicle collision.

"There are currently delays of 45 minutes above normal travel time."
A further update at 6.48pm said that all lanes had been reopened and traffic was returning to normal.
A spokesman said: "All lanes are now open on the M5 of the collision between Junction 1 (at West Bromwich) and the M6 following a multi vehicle collision.
"Delays are clearing well. Thanks for your patience."
