Road closure and diversions in Wolverhampton city centre as emergency water works set to begin, but then postponed

A road was closed and a diversion put in place as emergency water works on a Wolverhampton city centre road were set to begin, but were later postponed.

Wolverhampton Council had put out a message to let motorists know that Snow Hill would be closed from the junction of Wolverhampton Ring Road to the lights junction of Cleveland Street, Garrick Street and St Georges Parade to facilitate repair works for a leak & valve renew repair by Severn Trent Water.

It also said the road would be closed until Friday, with a diversion route around the Ring Road and onto Bilston Street and St Georges Parade.

A spokesman for Wolverhampton Council said: "Severn Trent Water emergency works mean a road closure on Snow Hill from the junction with Ring Road to outside No.28a and lane closure on Dudley Rd, between St John’s Retail Park and outside No.1a Snow Hill.

"This is expected to last into tomorrow, October 10."

However, a spokesman for Severn Trent Water later confirmed that works would not begin due to the council wanting the provider to look at traffic management and said it would notify customers in the area when works were due to begin.

The spokesman said: "The works aren’t going ahead today now as the council want us to take a look the traffic management again.

"No time is set when works will go ahead, but customers in the area will be given notice before anything take place."

The entrance to Snow Hill remained closed at the junction with Wolverhampton Ring Road around midday.
