Crash on M5 near West Bromwich causes traffic delays - two lanes closed

A collision on the M5 near West Bromwich has meant congestion and queuing on the busy motorway.

The collision occurred on the southbound M5 between the M6 and Junction 1 for West Bromwich at 11.29am today (August 12) .

Lanes two and three were closed off while a team from National Highways helped to recover the vehicles involved.

It saw delays of up to 30 minutes reported, with the area cleared and road reopened fully to traffic just after 11.45am, with delays of 10 minutes as traffic returned to normal.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Roads said at the time: "On the M5 southbound from the M6 to Junction 1 for West Bromwich and the A41, there has been a road traffic collision, with lanes two and three closed. 

"There are delays of 30+ minutes, so plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey."

A spokesman for National Highways said later, after the disruption was cleared: "There is congestion on the M5 southbound between the M6 and Junction 1.

"Normal traffic conditions are expected between 11.45am and 12pm, but there are currently delays of 10 minutes against expected traffic, caused by an earlier accident."
