M5 traffic: Car fire and crash leads to long delays for motorists

Motorists faced delays after a car fire and separate crash on the M5.

A car caught fire on the M5 southbound near Halesowen leading to queues.

The fire happened at around 7.15am on the motorway near Junction 4 for Lydiate Ash near Bromsgrove.

Traffic was affected back to Junction 3 at Halesowen.

Longer delays were also hitting Junction 2 at Oldbury with the southbound exit closed due to an accident between a car and lorry.

Queues backed up towards West Bromwich and the M5 link at Great Barr causing delays of up to 30 minutes.

Traffic was also heavily congested at Birchley Island and surrounding roads near the motorway including Wolverhampton Road and Church Bridge.

Only one lane remained closed at around 8.45am and delays were easing.

Separately delays were also reported on Stowheath Lane, in Bilston.
