Storm Boelo: Yellow warning continues across Staffordshire for strong winds and heavy rain

The yellow weather warning remains in place until 9pm.

Staffordshire is among the areas affected by a yellow weather warning as Storm Boelo brings strong winds and heavy rain across parts of the UK this weekend.

The Met Office warning covers Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, with potentially disruptive conditions expected to continue into today (Sunday, October 25) until 9pm.

Gusts of between 55mph and 65mph are forecast widely across affected areas, while exposed locations could see gusts of 70mph to 80mph or more. The strongest winds are expected in Scotland and the far north of England.

People in Staffordshire are being warned that strong winds could bring down trees and large branches, damage buildings and blow roof tiles loose.

Travel disruption is also possible, with road and rail services potentially affected by longer journey times and cancellations. Some roads and bridges could close, while power cuts may affect homes and other services, including mobile phone coverage.

The Met Office has warned that flying debris could cause injuries and, in some cases, pose a danger to life.

Residents are being urged to secure loose items outside their homes, including bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds and fences.

People are also advised to prepare for possible power cuts by gathering torches, batteries and mobile phone power banks.

Drivers are being encouraged to check road conditions before setting off, while those using public transport should check bus and train timetables and consider changing their plans if necessary.

The Met Office said the warning has a medium likelihood of occurring, at between 25% and 50%, alongside the potential for significant impacts.

Residents are advised to keep up to date with local forecasts as weather warnings can change quickly.
