Sedgley hailed as 'one of the best little towns in the West Midlands'

Scores of locals have had their say - what do you think of Sedgley in 2026?

Sedgley has been hailed as one of the "best little towns" in the West Midlands in a post celebrating the Black Country community.

The town was praised for its independent shops, local businesses, character and history, as well as the people who live there.

The post, shared by Black Country From Above, highlighted areas from Sedgley town centre to Sedgley Beacon and asked people what they loved most about the town.

It said: "Sedgley might be small, but it’s got plenty going for it - independent shops, local businesses, character, history and, most importantly, great people."

The post also asked residents to share their favourite parts of Sedgley, including its shops, pubs, views, people and history.

The response from residents and former residents was mixed.

Some were quick to defend the town, with one person describing Sedgley as having a "warm enriching community" with people who help each other, community groups, classes and supportive neighbours.

Another resident, who was born in West Bromwich and now lives in Sedgley, said they "love the place".

Others shared fond memories of growing up in the town.

One former resident recalled visiting its cafes and market, drinking in its pubs and walking from Sedgley Beacon towards Baggeridge, Himley and Wombourne. They said the town still had "good people".

Another person who grew up in Sedgley said they had "very fond memories" and still followed what was happening in the town.

But not everyone agreed with the glowing description.

Some commenters said the town had changed and was now "run down", while others raised concerns about crime and drugs.

The debate shows the different views people have of Sedgley, from those who remember it fondly to residents who feel the town has changed.

For many, however, its sense of community, local history and access to open countryside remain a big part of its appeal.

And with Sedgley Beacon, the town centre, pubs, independent businesses and walking routes on its doorstep, there is plenty for residents to make their own case for what makes the town special.
