Google has announced two new subscription streaming services for its users: YouTube Music and YouTube Premium. These will replace its existing YouTube Red premium service.

Users of the YouTube Music app will be able to access music, playlists, live performances, videos and radio.

YouTube Premium gives users everything inside YouTube Music, plus access to a library of video content. This includes comedies, dramas, reality series, and action adventure shows, without adverts.

Elias Roman, a product manager for YouTube Music, said: “It’s all here… YouTube’s tremendous catalogue of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos that you can’t find anywhere else – all simply organised and personalised.

“YouTube Music search works even if fans don’t know exactly what they’re looking for… we’ll find it if they describe it [try ‘that hipster song with the whistling’].”

YouTube Music will also feature a “discovery” section, where the app will recommend new music based on users’ history, location, and activity, as well as new playlists.

Existing YouTube Red subscribers will not pay a higher price for YouTub0e Premium, its new replacement.

The platform will first be rolled out in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea on May 22. It will then reach 14 countries, including the UK.
