£200k Holden's Brewery expansion hits delay

A £200,000 expansion of Holden's Brewery has been delayed until next month and production will not begin until early in 2013, bosses have said.
Holden's was given the go-ahead to build a three-storey extension at its premises in George Street, Woodsetton, in July and had initially planned to start work soon afterwards. It will allow production to be stepped up from 50,000 to 75,000 pints per week and will include a 70,000 pint storage tank and two fermenting vessels.
Bosses hoped to have the expanded site up-and-running by next month or November.
But they today announced building work would not begin until October 1 with the scheme scheduled for completion in late December.
Production at the expansion will then begin early in the New Year.
The existing site will remain open while the building work takes place.
Bosses said the delay had stemmed from the scheme being changed from a two-storey to a three-storey development.
Managing director Jonothan Holden said: "Although the council gave us permission for the three-storey extension we have had to complete other regulatory work to accommodate the change.
"This has caused a slight delay but everything is now on target and work on the extension will begin at the start of October.
"Production will begin very early next year and we are looking forward to getting started."
Mr Holden said groundwork had already been completed in preparation for the expansion and the concrete pad was already in place.
The brewery's expansion plans include exporting one beer, the Golden Special, to Japan.
A new bottle store and offices have already been opened at the site. Further building work is expected to take place at the site over the coming years.
The firm is one of the oldest in the area and was founded in 1915.
