Consultation opens on plans for 140 new homes in Lichfield city centre site
A consultation has been launched on plans to build up to 140 homes in Lichfield City Centre. The proposal would see the homes built on the former Tempest Ford garage at the junction of St John’s Street and Birmingham Road.
The Lichfield Gateway scheme is currently in pre-application discussions with Lichfield District Council and Staffordshire County Council to discuss the details of the design, transport and drainage. It is hoped that the development will set the standard for the remaining parcels of land within the Birmingham Road site.
Residents are now being asked to submit feedback on the plans before a full application is submitted at a later date.
A spokesperson for the scheme said: “The Lichfield Gateway proposal provides the opportunity to sensitively develop an allocated site, formerly used as a Garage and car showroom, and is the flagship first phase of the wider Birmingham Road Site Masterplan.
“Lichfield Gateway’s proposed development will add to the historic fabric of Lichfield – one that respects the city’s heritage. The scheme benefits from an architect-led bespoke solution to the site, building on the Georgian architecture, which is prominent in Lichfield, whilst ensuring the development is also contemporary.”
The scheme aims to redevelop the Birmingham Road site, opposite Lichfield City railway station, creating a distinctive gateway to the city.
A spokesperson for the project said: “Lichfield Gateway is the latest flagship regeneration project led by CB Collier, redefining the Birmingham Road Site, as the first phase of a high-quality new neighbourhood for the city. Located opposite Lichfield City Station, the apartment-led scheme will establish a distinctive gateway into the historic centre.
“It will be sensitively designed, guided by an adopted design code and shaped through extensive community engagement. The development will deliver contemporary homes, green spaces, and amenities that respect Lichfield’s heritage whilst supporting its future growth.”
The deadline to submit feedback on the plans is 3 April. Further details and how to submit comments are available at: https://birminghamroadlichfield.secureserversites.net/
