New accommodation blocks planned for Stafford barracks among this week’s planning applications
New accommodation could be built at MOD Stafford to provide space for more than 200 junior soldiers.
Defence Infrastructure Organisation has submitted an application to Stafford Borough Council to build two four-storey accommodation blocks at Beacon Barracks.
The site earmarked for the northern block is currently former tennis courts and hardstanding, the application form stated. And the land where the southern block is proposed is a car parking area with space for 94 vehicles.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said: “This application comprises of two junior ranks Single Living Accommodation (SLA)
blocks together with associated footpaths, bin store and cycle parking. The new buildings will each be a four-storey block and provide 116 bed spaces.

“(One block) is positioned in a location that is quiet within the barracks, adjacent to established trees, providing a suitable setting for residential use. A communal patio is proposed to the rear of building, accessed directly from the communal kitchen / amenity space at ground floor.
“(The second block) is located adjacent to the sports pitch, facing onto the circulation road within the barracks. For each accommodation block, one bin store is proposed together with a covered cycle parking for 24 bicycles.”
