The same study found Sutton Coldfield to be the least affordable town for families to buy a home, while Brierley Hill also ranked well as one of the country's most affordable towns.

The affordability calculations are based on house price-to-earnings ratios made by property website Zoopla compared with average house values and based affordability calculations on a two-earner household on full-time local earnings.

Bilston received a 3.17 score from the study, with the median home value of £201,300 and estimated annual household income of £63,500. It was the third best across the Midlands and Staffordshire, behind Newcastle-under-Lyme (2.88) and Stoke-on-Trent (2.97).
