Plans to build petrol station on site of Pelsall car wash refused
Plans to build a petrol station on the site of an existing car wash in Pelsall have been refused.
Raceway Fuels Limited, the owner of Prestige Gleam on Wolverhampton Road, had put forward its plans to demolish the existing buildings and replace them with a petrol station, kiosk, canopy, EV charging points and jet wash bays.
Agent Montagu Evans LLP said the existing site has a ‘tired appearance’ and is in ‘dire need’ of modification.
According to planning documents, the new station would have created 15 full-time jobs.

But the plans have been refused by Walsall Council due to a lack of details about the layout of the development, the potential for the new use to cause noise disturbance for neighbours, and no safe movement for pedestrians within the site.
The decision notice also said there was not enough information about the site’s former use as a petrol station, how to safely decommission the underground fuel tanks, and the potential for contamination.
