General Election 2017: Stafford firm giving staff one hour's paid leave to vote
A Stafford-based firm is calling on other businesses to join it in giving staff an hour's paid leave to vote on General Election day.
Stone Junction has launched a petition aimed at increasing voter turnout in the June 8 poll, after one third of the electorate failed to vote in 2015.
The firm's workers will be allowed to take an hour off to vote on polling day.
Managing director Richard Stone said: “Voting isn’t just about ticking a box — it’s about being in control of your future.
“Although polling stations are open outside standard working hours, many employees still choose to go home after a long day at the office, rather than going to vote.
“At Stone Junction, we believe that it is extremely important that everyone has the opportunity to vote, and we'd like other companies to join us in our pledge to give every employee one hour of paid leave to cast their vote on June 8.”
