'This was for them' - Bubbly Wolverhampton cafe worker who won thousands on TV game show dedicates it to late father and dear friend
A Wolverhampton mother of three who scooped more than £20,000 on a top gameshow dedicated the win to her late father and best friend who she worked with at a popular cafe.
Popular Kerry 'Kez' Harvey won £21,560 on an edition of Deal or No Deal which was shown this week and received high praise from host Stephen Mulhern in picking the right box - he also said it 'Couldn't have happened to a nicer person.'
Kerry wore a necklace with her late father Kingsley's ashes in and a hair grip with a flower dedicated to her dear friend Jane Bloomer who ran The Cafe in Showell Circus, Low Hill.
Jane and her husband Craig asked Kerry to come and work there eight years ago when she was a barmaid at the pub in Wolverhampton where they were regulars.
Even when not working, the 47-year-old who has two girls and a boy has been a daily fixture since - although Jane and Craig have passed on.
She was quizzed by the host about the cafe and footage of a glitterball located on the ceiling and traffic lights within the seating area was also played on television.
Kerry and her daughter Shannon in the audience both became emotional and there were plenty of tears, with Shannon saying her mum was an 'amazing woman who is loved by everyone.'
Although the episode was recorded in November 2024, it has only just aired and Kerry described it as 'the best experience of my life - she still keeps in touch with panel members who guided her towards the cash, through reunions and group chat.
She said: "It was Jane who encouraged me to apply and I went and did an audition and thought nothing more of it until I got the call back and found myself recording the episode which would go out to millions.
"I thought it only appropriate to remember Jane as she and Craig were such an important part of my life along with dad who everyone called Chubby - this was all for them.
"It seems such a long time ago but since it was shown on Tuesday things have exploded and so many people have come into the cafe and done a double take as if they know me - even those on the street stare.
"To win over £21,000 is a fantastic amount but I always said however much I did win I would still come into work at the cafe."
Kerry said she has already spent some of the money on her back garden where she has cut down a tree and plans to plant a palm tree in its place.
