Overturned lorry shuts A38 in both directions at M5 Junction - major delays

Commuters will be hit by delays in the Midlands

An overturned lorry has forced the closure of the A38 at Junction 5 of the M5 in Worcestershire during the early hours of Friday morning, causing disruption for motorists heading through the area.

National Highways West Midlands said the incident happened at 1am, with emergency services remaining at the scene for several hours.

The A38 remains closed in both directions between the M5 junction 5 entry and exit slip roads near Droitwich and Bromsgrove.

Drivers travelling southbound on the M5 can only leave the motorway onto the A38 northbound towards Bromsgrove, while motorists heading northbound on the M5 can only exit onto the A38 southbound towards Droitwich.

In a statement posted on social media, National Highways warned the incident was likely to affect the morning rush hour, although no significant delays had been reported early on Friday morning.

Recovery work is ongoing and drivers are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys and follow diversion routes where possible.
