One lane reopens on M6 near Birmingham following earlier fuel spillage

Traffic has begun to move after another lane was reopened following the earlier fuel spillage.

A lane has been reopened on the M6 as the clean up operation to remove fuel from the motorway continues.

National Highways West Midlands said that just two lanes remained closed on the M6 northbound carriageway between junctions 5 and 6 following a fuel spillage from a HGV while crews work at the scene with a Hydro blaster.

The provider said there were still delays and congestion.

A spokesman for National Highways West Midlands said: “Lanes 1 of 2 of 4 remain closed on the M6 northbound in the West Midlands between junction 5 for Sutton Coldfield and junction 6 for Birmingham following a fuel spillage.

“Crews are working to clear the spillage with a Hydro blaster.

“Current delays of 20 minutes on the approach and two miles of congestion.”
