When it comes to looking for the perfect pet - sometimes it’s the ones you least expect to capture your heart.
In one West Midlands town, there are nine adorable furry friends - which have been deemed ‘underdogs’ - just waiting to find their forever home this May Bank Holiday weekend.
And some of them, who are currently living in Kenilworth Dogs Trust kennels, have quirky names - such as the hilariously named Captain Porkchop.
To rehome a dog with Dogs Trust in the UK, contact Dogs Trust via their “Giving up your dog” page to start the process, have an assessment with their rehoming team, and arrange to bring your dog into their care (see the official steps here: https://www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming/giving-up-your-dog/our-process)
Take a look at the collection or adorable dogs below:

5. Meet Deki, an 8+ year old German Shepherd cross who is a large, independent boy looking for a calm, adult-only home where his boundaries are respected. He is housetrained and can be left for short periods, but will need patient adopters to help him settle and continue his ongoing training. Deki prefers to be the only pet and needs a secure garden, though he can walk calmly alongside other dogs. With time and understanding, he has the potential to be a loyal and rewarding companion.

6. Meet Duke, a large crossbreed aged around 2–5 years who is full of energy, enthusiasm, and loves being out on adventures. He’s a lively boy who enjoys food and toys, which makes him very trainable and keen to learn. He can get overexcited at times and will need patient owners who can continue his training and help him manage his impulses, including building up time spent alone. Duke would need to be the only pet in an adult-only home with a secure garden, where he can play, explore, and keep developing his manners with support.

7. Meet Donny, a 2–5 year old large crossbreed who is a handsome, food-motivated boy with lots of fun and mischief in him. He is very treat-driven, which will really help with training, including learning housetraining and how to cope with being left alone. He can find new people and situations overwhelming, so he needs an adult-only home with minimal visitors and a calm space where he can retreat when feeling unsure. Donny has already made good progress with muzzle training and enjoys socialising with other dogs, so he could potentially live with a calm canine companion after careful introductions.

8. Meet Captain Porkchop, a large Lurcher aged around 2–5 years who is a sweet, sensitive boy with a gentle nature and a love for soft toys and affection. He can find new environments a bit overwhelming and will need a calm, adult-only home where he can build confidence at his own pace, including learning to cope with being left alone gradually. Captain Porkchop would need to be the only pet and is looking for patient adopters who can offer reassurance, routine, and a peaceful home to help him flourish.
