When it comes to looking for the perfect pet - sometimes it’s the ones you least expect to capture your heart.
In one West Midlands town, there are nine adorable furry friends - which have been deemed ‘underdogs’ - just waiting to find their forever home this May Bank Holiday weekend.
And some of them, who are currently living in Kenilworth Dogs Trust kennels, have quirky names - such as the hilariously named Captain Porkchop.
To rehome a dog with Dogs Trust in the UK, contact Dogs Trust via their “Giving up your dog” page to start the process, have an assessment with their rehoming team, and arrange to bring your dog into their care (see the official steps here: https://www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming/giving-up-your-dog/our-process)
Take a look at the collection or adorable dogs below:

1. Meet Rory, a Whippet cross from Dogs Trust, a lively and affectionate male aged around 2–5 years who is full of personality and looking for a forever home. He has made great progress with training but can still find walks overwhelming at times, so he’ll need a patient owner who can continue building his confidence in quieter environments. Rory is a fun, energetic companion who loves being around people and would suit a committed home ready to support his ongoing training and help him settle happily.

2. Meet Claude, a large Italian Corso aged around 2–5 years, who is intelligent, eager to learn, and full of personality. He can be a bit boisterous and may need continued training and support with things like manners, confidence, and adjusting to home life, especially as his past is largely unknown. Claude would suit a patient, adult-only home with no other pets, where he can build trust, enjoy enrichment activities, and continue growing into a loving, affectionate companion.

3. Meet Luna, a young Lurcher aged around 1–2 years, who is a lively, affectionate girl with lots of energy and a love for staying busy. She’s highly food-motivated and enjoys enrichment activities, but can struggle being left alone and will need a patient home to help build her independence gradually. Luna is friendly but can be boisterous, so she’d suit a home with older children and no small animals, where she can continue developing her confidence and social skills.

4. Meet Gino, a large Lurcher aged around 2–5 years, who is a fun-loving and energetic boy with a big personality and a passion for playtime—especially with his favourite soft toys. He’s full of bounce and would thrive with an active family (with older children) who can give him plenty of exercise, enrichment, and patience as he continues learning to be left alone and build social skills. Gino would prefer to be the only pet and needs adopters willing to support his training, but in return he promises lots of love, companionship, and enthusiasm for life.
