Multiple arrested and weapons recovered in Birmingham

Both boys, aged 14 and 15, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Police have recovered numerous weapons and made multiple arrests following ‘proactive patrols’ across Birmingham.

Police have used Section 60 powers across Birmingham over the past few days in areas including the city centre, Small Heath, Sparkbrook and Soho.

Officers patrolling around Small Heath yesterday (November 2), recovered two knives.

Officers also detained a 15-year-old boy following a short foot chase on Cyril Road and two knives were recovered. The boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody for questioning.

Two teenage boys were also detained following a foot chase, and a machete was recovered.

Both boys, aged 14 and 15, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Birmingham Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Tom Joyce said: "Community engagement shows support for the use of section 60 powers to stop and search, because our communities recognise the devastating effects of knife crime.

"Recovering so many weapons means we are preventing possible deaths and serious injuries. However, it is sad that the lives of those young people arrested will be affected forever by the decision to carry weapons. We urge parents to talk to their children about the risks they are taking, and the choices they are making."
